Couldn’t Catch a Break

January 25, 2014 – frozen water wheel on Hole 3

The traditional Bent Tree Ice Breaker golf tournament was canceled, due to freezing conditions. It was cold enough for a layer of ice to form over a good portion of Lake Tamarack. Click the photos below twice to zoom in, and you can easily see a line between the ice near the beach and the non-frozen section towards the dam. Yesterday, it was sunny and reached almost 50 degrees. A beautiful day in the neighborhood.

Expanded Green

April 29, 2013 - looking from behind the green on hole 4

Hole 4 recently reopened, after being closed for a couple of months while the green was expanded. The photo above was taken in April (before expansion), from behind the green. The Ice Breaker Tournament (postponed because of today’s rain) will be the first official club tournament to be played on the expanded green. Following are before and after pictures:

Ice Breaker

The annual Bent Tree Ice Breaker Golf Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, January 11th. It is a two-person scramble (9 or 18 holes depending on the weather), and each player only gets to bring/use three clubs. It’s a Bent Tree tradition to kick off the new golf year. The photo below was taken during the 2011 Icebreaker. Click here to link to the official Golf Bent Tree website. UDATE – due to rain, the tournament has been rescheduled for January 25th.

On the Back Nine

The old restroom on the back nine is gone. Port-a-johns were brought in late yesterday and will be used temporarily until the new restroom is completed. The new restroom is being funded by “The Flush Fund” (a mix of donated funds from the golf community, donated materials/labor from various local contractors, donated labor from volunteers, and labor from Bent Tree employees). The plan is to have the new building up and flushing in time for the big Trout’s Tournament in August.

Well...it's almost gone. The main part of the building is loaded on a trailer.

Think Pink

Today is the Rally for the Cure Golf Tournament at Bent Tree.  This annual event is sponsored by the BTLGA Niners, and raises thousands of dollars each year to help find a cure for breast cancer.  It’s always great to see the men and women decked out in pink for the cause (yes, real men DO wear pink).  Thank you to the Niners for hosting the event, and prayers for all who have been touched by breast cancer in one way or another.

Here’s a close-up of a thistle bloom in Bent Tree.  Legend has it that one thistle saved all of Scotland.   I’m posting it as a symbol of hope for a cure.
