Trillium growth – last year vs. this year

Last year was an “early blooming” spring in Bent Tree. Here are a couple of photos that compare the same spot of trillium, exactly one year apart. The first photo was taken on March 8, 2012 and the plants were already blooming. The second photo was taken on March 8, 2013 and the plants were just starting to poke out of the ground. Note – a common name for the various species of trillium is “wake-robin”. Folklore holds that trillium appear when robins wake from winter and welcome spring.
