Note – the post below is from 13 years ago (July 2, 2012). That summer, there was an exceptional drought and temperatures in Bent Tree hit over 104° several days in a row.

Every time I see this piebald squirrel in Bent Tree, with its mostly white body and its gray head, the song “Touch of Grey” starts going through my head. As the lyrics say, “We will get by, We will survive”. Enjoy the Bent Tree fireworks tonight and all the Independence Day festivities on the 4th

We stopped our golf cart to let a doe finish crossing the road and, just as we were about to start up again, this fawn appeared, running across to catch up with the doe. It froze right in front of our cart and for a second it looked like it was going to jump right in with us. Then, it turned and high-tailed it out of there.

May 31, 2025 – Black Bears in Bent Tree
This video is from last summer. You can see the yellow jackets attacking the cub but the cub’s thick fur keeps it from getting stung. The cub eventually dug up the nest and ate it.
