The Community Wildfire Defense Grant
In 2023, there were 11 applications from Georgia for USDA Forest Service Community Wildfire Defense Grant funds (see below for a list of who applied and for what amount). Click here to see a pdf of the public record of the application from Wildcat Community, Inc.
The Wildcat Community, a consortium which includes Bent Tree and Big Canoe along with other communities in the area, requested funds of over $4.4 million. Note – Wildcat Community did not receive the FY2023 grant.
Flashback to July 2012
Note – the post below is from 13 years ago (July 2, 2012). That summer, there was an exceptional drought and temperatures in Bent Tree hit over 104° several days in a row.
